Location: Hybrid; must be able to work in-person in NYC and occasionally travel to Albany.

Organizational Background: Founded in 1986, the Coalition for Asian American Children and Families (CACF) is the nation’s only pan-Asian children and families’ advocacy organization that brings together community-based organizations as well as youth and parents to fight for equity for Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) children and families. In addition to its work to improve the health and well-being of AAPI children in New York City, CACF works to transform the AAPI community by fostering collaboration, promoting community leadership, and building a collective voice.

Primary Responsibilities
The Senior Health Policy Coordinator will develop and organize support for CACF’s health policy and legislative agenda. The Senior Health Policy Coordinator is a thought leader in the health equity space.  This position reports to the Director of Policy and Government Relations and works collaboratively with our Health Partnerships Coordinator. Candidates must be prepared to work closely with policymakers, CACF member agencies and partners, community leaders, elected and appointed officials and other advocacy organizations.

Policy/Advocacy

  • Lead/Co-lead campaigns to improve healthcare policies, funding, and services for AAPI, immigrant communities (including limited English proficient communities) and other communities of color.
  • Conduct policy research and analysis, including community needs assessments, as relevant to campaigns and projects.
  • Externally represent the health policy agenda through written and public testimony, prepare policy memos/factsheets and position papers.
  • Meeting with and convening CACF stakeholders including member organizations, young people and parents, member agencies to learn about ongoing issues and provide opportunities for information exchange and peer support
  • Representing CACF as a health leader as well as in City and State health campaigns.
  • Co-leading on government relations efforts at the City and State level on health.

Qualifications, Education and Experience
Required

  • Demonstrated expertise in health policy field
  • Bachelor’s or Masters degree with at least 3-5 years of experience in the health or advocacy field
  • Commitment to CACF’s mission, public health, children’s rights, and social justice.
  • Understanding of Asian American Pacific Islander communities and/or non-profit organizations.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; persuasive communicator with a keen eye for detail.
  • Capacities to lead, innovate, break new ground, take risks, and take public stances on issues.
  • Ability to work with diverse staff and flexibility to work on multiple tasks under pressure.
  • Interest in legislative, budget, and administrative advocacy and policymaking
  • Excellent skills in researching and identifying new policy/advocacy opportunities
  • Ability to set priorities among multiple responsibilities

Preferred

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with varied constituencies, including staff, social service organizations, elected and appointed officials, and government agencies
  • Ability to write and speak an Asian dialect

Salary and Benefits

Salary: This is a full-time position.  The starting salary is $70,000.
