Succession Planning: Today’s Leading Approaches

August 12, 2020 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm EDT

Free

Description:

This webinar will explore succession planning through a framework of leadership and organizational sustainability that blends top-down and bottom-up approaches to managing and planning for leadership transition. We will discuss the imperative to undertake succession planning as a governance best practice that prepares organizations to keep operations running during any type of disruption to leadership continuity. We’ll also unpack the broader dimensions of succession planning through which organizations should be developing internal leadership pathways and striving to create a workplace that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive.

In this workshop, participants will:

  • Describe and flesh out types of succession plans: emergency/unplanned (temporary/permanent, interim leadership options); planned (navigating different timelines, transition committee formation, identification of internal or external successors, search firm selection)
  • Anticipate and assess ripple effects and peripheral issues: anticipated departures in consequence of ED departure; sub-executive leadership changes; internal leadership development trajectory/talent pipeline; recruitment and retention policies and practices
  • Prepare for executing succession planning: interviews; focus groups; HR policy review; leadership-wide position description refresh; professional development policy review; landscape analysis; salary benchmarking

This workshop is best suited for:

  • Board leaders
  • CEOs
  • Senior staff
