The Asian American Federation (AAF), founded in 1989, is New York City’s most powerful leadership voice for better policies, services, and funding that lead to more justice and opportunity for Asian immigrants. Our mission is to raise the influence and well-being of the pan-Asian American community through research, policy advocacy, public awareness, and nonprofit support.

In collaboration with 70 member and partner community-based organizations, we serve the interests of 1.7 million New Yorkers from 20 ethnic groups—diverse in language, culture, and religion—that make up New York’s Asian community, by providing expert research and unrelenting advocacy; working with lawmakers to change policies; and training Asian nonprofits to better serve their communities.

Overview:

 

Reporting to the Associate Director of Development and Communications, the Social Media Coordinator will be responsible for implementing social media strategies, developing AAF’s audience, and amplifying our mission, while maintaining and refining AAF’s voice. The ideal candidate will have a passion for AAF’s mission and demonstrate an excitement for social media engagement and enjoy online interactions that allow opportunity to showcase our mission to a larger audience.

 

Major responsibilities will include:

 

Develop, edit, and curate engaging content for Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and other platforms, in collaboration with internal departments, all while maintaining a consistent brand voice
Brainstorm and implement creative ways to increase the number of social media followers and engagement across all platforms
Live-post to social media platforms during AAF’s events
Maintain a social media calendar that is in sync with the overall communications/editorial calendar
Share and promote the work of our member and partner organizations on AAF’s social media platforms
Perform other duties as assigned, acting as a key member of AAF’s Communications team
Qualifications:

 

Bachelor’s degree required
A minimum of 1-2 years of experience in social media management and demonstrated understanding of key functions of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube
·       Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with exceptional attention to detail

·       Ability to write engaging and friendly content that highlights complex issues related to AAF’s mission, with a proven track record of producing effective social media content

Exceptional organizational skills, with demonstrated ability to manage concurrent multiple assignments, meet tight deadlines, and prioritize accordingly, including managing social media content for multiple platforms across internal departments, as well as content related to member and partner organizations
·       Ability to work both independently and collaboratively

·       Demonstrated initiative in proactively seeking information and solving problems, with the ability to troubleshoot and make recommendations

Track record of remaining up-to-date with the ever-changing landscape of social media, and willingness to learn as new best practices evolve and new platforms emerge
Working knowledge of Buffer, Canva, and/or other tools for social media planning and content creation
Demonstrated experience in or dedication to elevating voices, needs, and concerns of Asian communities or other communities of people who have been historically marginalized
Experience with social media analytics and reporting a plus
Compensation:  Salary is up to $55,000 per year, commensurate with experience. Our benefits package includes generous paid time off, health, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, as well as a 403(b) plan.
