Director of Program Operations



Founded in 1981, Diaspora Community Services (DCS) is a Brooklyn-based multi-service and multi-cultural 501 (c) 3 nonprofit providing comprehensive supports to low income residents, immigrants, and the chronically ill. DCS serves some 10,000 annually through three programmatic sites in New York City. Staffed by seasoned professionals in the health and social service sectors and supported by a dedicated Board of Directors as diverse as the vibrant communities we serve, DCS provides robust programming that targets the most vulnerable of our communities.

DCS’s programs address the very root causes of the challenges our clients face, empowering low income families and individuals to overcome obstacles to their well-being and self-sufficiency.

Job Summary:

DCS seeks a Director of Program Operations to support the seamless oversight of programs by providing quality supervision to Program Managers/Associates and oversight of contractual requirements.  This Senior Level position reports directly to the CEO and is a new position created to strengthen Diaspora’s programmatic and organizational infrastructure.  Additional structures supporting programs include other Senior Leaders to address operations, program initiatives, and quality assurance.

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

Professional Job Duties/Required Skills

Oversee DCS programs portfolio with a team of Program Managers/Associates reporting directly to the CEO

Grants Management – expertise in government contracts, program development and implementation, compliance. Familiarity with city, state and local contract management, budget development/oversight

Staff development – strengthen effective supervision, training, while enhancing staff engagement, team building

Data alignment -enhance IT related to program management, compliance, data and operations

Fiscal Operations -Knowledge of Continuation of funding applications, grant writing, budget development, budget modifications, etc.

New business development – familiarity with social determinants of health to create new programs, knowledge of program initiatives to enhance DCS’ programs and bring in new funding areas

Qualification Requirements:

●        A graduate degree is preferred (LMSW, MPA, MS,) with additional certifications a plus. An efficient administrator with supervisory experience is essential as this position is supported by government funds and requires program implementation.

●        Bachelor’s degree required with 10 years of progressive, direct program and administrative experience.

●        Knowledge of non-profit management, program implementation, contract management and administrative operations are key to the success of this position.

●        Experience in organizing, prioritizing large amounts of data.

●        Proficiency with computer skills such as Microsoft Word and Excel.

●        Excellent organization skills to prioritize and track multiple objectives at once.

●        Excellent written and oral communication skills.


Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience. Diaspora Community Services offers a comprehensive benefits package including full health, dental and vision insurance benefits, voluntary flexible spending plan, 403B retirement plan, and eligible to accrue 15 vacation days, 3 personal days, 8 sick days and up to 12 paid holidays.
