Social Action & Advocacy

The Director of Institutional Giving will function at a senior, strategic level to develop strategies to sustain and grow institutional funding from current and prospective foundation and government entities. The Director will serve as the main point of contact for major institutional funders such as the Robin Hood Foundation, Conrad Hilton Foundation, Van Ameringen Foundation, the Clark Foundation, New York City and New York State. The Director will establish annual income goals for this sector and will cultivate and maintain relationships with potential and current foundation and (federal and local) government partners in order to meet or exceed these goals.
The Director of Institutional Giving reports directly to the Chief Development Officer, and supervises 1 staff member and a grant writing consultant.
This position is currently hybrid, requiring ~25% travel, to either the Mineola or Brooklyn location as needed.

Salary:
• $110,000-$120,000 – Commensurate with experience
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Develop and manage the stewardship of institutional funders in conjunction with the Chief Development Officer, CEO, and Chief Program Officer (40%)
2. Work closely with senior program staff to help them shape programs that appeal to funders and that further SCO’s mission and strategic plan
3. Collaborate with the CEO, Chief Program Officer, Chief Development Officer, and Associate Director of Institutional Giving to cultivate and solicit major foundation grants
4. Prep the CEO, CPO, CDO and program staff for funder meetings
5. Oversee institutional funder prospecting, proposal writing, reporting, and positioning the organization for renewed support (25%)
6. Manage a portfolio of existing foundation and corporate supporters securing a high rate of renewal support to meeting annual revenue goals
7. Lead the development of new proposals for a wide range of projects and programs.
8. Ensure regular, strong communications with institutional giving contacts about SCO activities and programming.
9. In collaboration with Finance and Program staff, help to develop budget documents and solicitation materials and coordinate reporting to government funders within the prescribed time frame for each contract (10%)
10. Ensure SCO remains in good standing with all government vendor registries and contractor and grantee databases in partnership with Finance Office and Legal Office.
11. Supervise Institutional Giving staff (20%)
12. Supervise grant writing consultants
13. Supervise Associate Director of Institutional Giving
14. Perform other duties to support the Development division, as assigned (5%)

Qualifications / Requirements:
• Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent combination of relevant education + experience.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in institutional fundraising management.
• Experience securing support from local, state, and federal agencies.
• Strong writing skills and grant writing expertise of complex proposals.
• Track record of successfully securing institutional funding of five to seven figures and exceeding contributed income goals in a competitive fundraising environment.
• Experience with managing prospect research.
• Excellent planning, strategy, financial, budgeting, and analytical skills.
• Strong time management skills and proven ability to organize, expedite, and manage multiple complex projects and competing deadlines simultaneously.
• Strong collaborative and teamwork skills and the ability to deal with different personalities and work styles.
• Excellent communication skills, with particularly strong written and oral presentation abilities.
• Proficiency with a fundraising database, and familiarity with MS Office Suite.
• Proven experience as an effective leader
• Proactive, resourceful and creative problem-solver, adaptive to a changing organization.
• Sense of humor.
