Barrier Free Living (BFL) is dedicated to helping New Yorkers with disabilities live independently in the community.  Through its various programs, BFL provides a broad range of residential and non-residential services to disabled survivors of domestic violence.  Services include case management, housing placements, independent living skills training, occupational therapy, short- and long-term individual counseling, advocacy within the medical, mental health, child welfare, law enforcement, and criminal justice systems, and referrals to outside services.

About Freedom House

Freedom House – a crisis shelter for victims of domestic violence – provides a safe and confidential place that is totally accessible for those with or without disabilities. Freedom House offers comprehensive services to both families and single individuals who are in recovery from their experiences of trauma. Services include (but are not limited to) individual and group counseling, case management, assistance with housing and government benefits, on-site child care, occupational therapy, medical consulting, and psychiatric services. This state-of-the-art facility is the first completely accessible domestic violence shelter for individuals with disabilities in the country.

Role Summary
Barrier Free Living is seeking qualified applicants to join our team. The Director of Social Services reports to the Program Director of Freedom House and oversees the clinical services offered to families and singles including DV counseling, advocacy, and case management for those who reside at Freedom House.

Responsibilities:

Provides regularly scheduled weekly individual and group supervision to DV Counselors and interns
Monitors resident records for compliance and best practices, including regular review of progress notes and service plans
Assists with required reports and program evaluations, as needed
Coordinates and builds relationships within the agency and with outside services providers
Attends coalition and leadership meetings
Ensures program compliance with agency policies, funders, and other regulatory agencies
Works closely with leaders from other departments and programs within the agency
Alternates with Program Director for after-hours on-call responsibility
Maintains schedule of clinical staff, including on-call rotation
In the absence of the Program Director, responsible for oversight of the program

Education:

Licensed Master of Social Work or Mental Health Counseling

LCSW or LMHC preferred, but not required

SIFI certification

Qualifications:

Minimum 5 years of post-Masters experience, preferably working with victims of domestic violence and/or people with disabilities and the D/deaf or Hard of Hearing
Basic understating of the homeless, domestic violence, and child welfare systems in New York City
Supervisory experience with both clinical staff and ability to supervise MSW (SIFI certification) and/or mental health counseling interns
Experienced group facilitator and trainer
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Open to working with diverse populations
Excellent communication and writing skills
Bilingual ASL and/or Spanish speaking preferred
Provide FDA-authorized COVID-19 vaccination record

Start Date: Immediately
Annual Salary: $71,400.00

Hours per week: 35.00
Schedule:
Monday through Friday 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM, rotating on-call via phone, a minimum of two days on-site and three days remote.  The schedule may change due to COVID-19 including additional in-person days.

Work Environment:
This position will spend time at the program site and, have an independent (private) office.

Supervision to clinical staff, interns, and others as required.
